One dancer becomes many dancers in this incredible short film that’s an exploration of motion, dance, and an abstract expression of the human form. Michael Langan’s experimental film Choros features Terah Maher as a dancer whose moves are echoed across the screen, trailing behind her so she appears to multiply before your eyes, at times appearing like a Hindu deity with multiple limbs.Inspired by director Norman McLaren and proto-filmmaker Étienne-Jules Marey the intricate visuals, set to Steve Reich‘s “Music for 18 Musicians”, are achieved using a technique called chronophotography. This is where multiple photos are used one after the other to show the movement of a subject, like with Muybridge’s horse. Langan combined this technique with digital compositing to allow for greater freedoms with the compositions and a sleeker finish.[via Vimeo]@stewart23rd
