Joey Bada$$ VS Lil B

There's been so much rap beef in 2013, someone needs to hold a BBQ...ZING!

We’re not yet past the first month of 2013, yet there’s already been enough rap beef for a small time Sunday afternoon BBQ. First, we had Angel Haze take on Azealia Banks. The two sent diss tracks across Twitter and thus helped journalists farm content for their websites. Like a PG film, it was mildly interesting, yet mostly flaccid.

Next, we had Frank Ocean take on Chris Brown in a parking lot. This one was a little more serious because it was IRL.

But, since people only converse in 140 character statements these days, rap beef has turned to charcoal, as flame wars ignite across timelines. So, with that said, it was at least kind of fun to hear that the two "brawled" in real life, with proper punches to the face and everything. It was also really interesting to hear writers - myself included - describe their fight as a brawl. It kind of made it seem as though they were WWE wrestlers, having one of those out of ring matches in the car park. It was real life, real entertainment told to us through the eyes of TMZ.

Now, Joey Bada$$ and Lil B have brought some bacon along to the party.

Lil B has set his target on the Pro Era general, following some of the lyrics that Joey chose to tweet from his track “Survival Tactics”. Although the song originally aired back in 2012, a certain lyric throws a little punch toward the Based God.

“They say hard work pays off / Well tell the Based God don’t quit his day job”

Lil B seized his chance to trend and sent out a diss track.

It’s mostly a drone. I’ve heard better sounds putting my ear next to sea shells and listening to the continuum of the sea. But at least, Based God is going to get some face time on blogs again.

Obviously, Joey HAD to respond.

This one is a little better, if only because Joey’s voice sounds like butter spread on toast. Also, as has come to be expected from Pro Era, the track has got a throwback vibe to it.

So could this be the start of a West Coast VS East Coast 2.0? No. Will some blogs report it as such? Probably.

As with Azealia and Angel, the Joey versus Lil B saga proves that if you want to hit media traffic with sub standard songs in 2013, simply send out a diss track. You’ll be trending in no time.
