Watching Alex James and Jamie Oliver Drop "Wonderwall" at an Oxfordshire Food Festival is Strangely Addictive

Is this pukka?

There's no denying that "Wonderwall" is a massive song. To some people, it's the biggest tune of them all; a cue for the lads to take their shirt off and bellow "mayyyyyyyyyyyyyybe you're guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhna be the one to saaaaaaahve meh" while their mates crowd around shedding tears, properly wrapped up in a manly embrace, spilling beer all down their fronts. To others, it's just the easiest song to play on guitar. For that reason, it's frequently also the most butchered song in existence.

After watching countless friends unceremoniously strum their way through the chord pattern after regretfully finding their way to a guitar at a house party, it felt certain we'd lived through the worst of the "Wonderwall" performances. But no. We were wrong. Because the other day Blur's Alex James and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver dropped "Wonderwall" during a DJ set at a food festival called The Big Feastival in Oxfordshire.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Just imagine Alex James and Jamie Oliver playing a b2b DJ set like some sort of Tory Party Conference homage to Skrillex and Diplo.

Imagine Alex James and Jamie Oliver playing a DJ set at a posh food festival in Oxfordshire, in front of some hay bales, one with their shirt buttoned down to the pectorals and the other wearing a beanie and a university hoody that says "BROCCOLI".

Imagine Alex James and Jamie Oliver dropping "Wonderwall" during their DJ set at a posh food festival in Oxfordshire, and aggressively hugging each other and punching the air in celebration as the chorus comes in.

Imagine Alex James and Jamie Oliver dropping "Wonderwall" during their DJ set at a posh food festival in Oxfordshire, and then brandishing a locally sourced 100% organic beef and paprika sausage which they both begin to nibble from each end as "Wonderwall" plays out, a la Lady and the Tramp, and the whole farm explodes in rapturous applause, even the animals.

Okay, maybe we made that last one up, but only as a defence mechanism to bring some surrealness to what appears to be real life. Yes, this happened. It all happened. You can watch the whole thing here, but if you want to be able to concentrate for the rest of today, here's just a clip.

I think we can agree this is a strangely beautiful piece of #content.

At once horrific and at other times magnificent, there are many things to be said about the video: Jamie Oliver's 2.0 Uni Lad get-up; Jamie Oliver lusting after a piggy back on Alex James; Jamie Oliver continually missing his drumming cue; the San Pellegrino in the background; the hay bales; wondering who paid to witness it in the flesh; what's happening to our country, etc etc. In fact, entire thesis deserve to be written about this pukka moment in our time.

Watch and watch again.
