Since his death on Monday, Tom Petty has been the subject of numerous heartfelt tributes, including musical ones. His accessible style meant that he was a much-loved influence for many, and performers from across the musical spectrum—from Coldplay to Hanson, Tigers Jaw and Dave Matthews—have covered his songs in the last few days. Coldplay and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck held a minute's silence in memory of Petty, followed by a rendition of "Free Fallin'" at a show in Portland Monday night (October 2).
