Embroidered Animation Machine Brings Sewing to Motion

Elliot Schultz's "Embroidered Zoetrope" turns turntables into fabric animations.

Embroidered Zoetrope by Elliot Schultz puts mealworms, neon cubes, and mandala-like designs onto a fabric record and lets them dance. “The animation is activated when a strobe light illuminates the discs in sync with the embroidered frames of animation,” Schultz writes on Vimeo. The hand-sewn designs circulate and gesticulate on top of a record player as though the turntable is inspiring motion. Check out Embroidered Zoetrope in motion below:
