Turning The Human Body Into A Jerky Music Visualization Tool

Daito Manabe creates a “symphony of fingertips” using electrical impulses.

Daito Manabe is an artist who’s very fond of using the human body as a canvas to conduct his audiovisual experiments. He’s previously turned the human face into a drum machine and a VJ tool, and now he’s at it again in the music video for FaltyDL’s “Straight & Arrow”.

In the video, he creates a “symphony of fingertips” by wiring up a group of people with his custom equipment so that their bodies move in time with, and visualize, the music. No longer are their bodies their own as they literally become slaves to the rhythm. Or at least to Manabe’s electrical manipulations.

Fingertips are tapped and arms jerked in unison with the sounds as their movements are fed by electric stimulation from the myoelectric sensors on their skin.
