"Unlock It" Hints at More Heat to Come from Charli XCX's 'POP 2'

The Jay Park and Kim Petras-featuring cut premiered on Monday on Beats 1 and comes ahead of the full mixtape on Friday.

Knowing Charli XCX when POP 2, her second mixtape of 2017, is released on Friday it'll be so ridiculously good that every music publication in existence will have to delete their end of year lists and in their places publish pages which simply state: "1) POP 2."

Okay yes I know that's hyperbolic, but it's also not entirely baseless. And I Say that because on Monday, Charli rocked up to Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show to premiere another new track that hints at POP 2 being out here to fuck all your playlists up. "Unlock It" features Korean rapper Jay Park and German singer Kim Petras and as with all things that come from the candy floss and vodka jelly brain of Charli XCX, it's a sweet, synthy treat.

The initially spare track is melodic and sparkly, mixing glitchy spoken parts from Charli, smooth vocals from Kim (who, Charli told Lowe, she met at a SOPHIE show – a match made in dance pop heaven), and a fun verse from Jay Park. It spells excellent things to come from POP 2, which, following "Out of My Head," featuring Tove Lo and ALMA, is so far two for two.
