Watch a Teaser for the New Adam Sandler Movie That Actually Looks Good

Noah Baumbach's latest film also stars Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson, and Dustin Hoffman.

Adam Sandler is a long, long way from his mid-90s heyday playing adult men who never developed the ability to maturely handle their emotions. And while the guy managed to explore some depth in his characters in Punch-Drunk Love or whatever, he's churned out a succession of increasingly bad films since then.

But earlier this year, something miraculous happened: Sandler's latest movie, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), premiered at Cannes, and the crowd was so moved they gave it a four-minute standing ovation—not bad for an audience that loves to boo.

Now, the first teaser trailer for The Meyerowitz Stories is here, and it looks like it could be the best film starring Adam Sandler since that Judd Apatow movie no one talks about anymore.

Granted, this isn't just another Happy Madison production. The movie is written and directed by Noah Baumbach (Frances Ha, The Squid and the Whale) and also stars Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson, and Dustin Hoffman. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie centers on a dysfunctional family's aging patriarch, Harold Meyerowitz—played by Hoffman—whose family races to put together a gallery show of Meyerowitz's sculptures before he dies. Sandler plays the eldest son.

The movie is due out on Netflix this fall. Variety called it "the best Netflix Original film to date," and Deadline lauded Sandler as "a stand-out among many stand-outs."

Give the teaser a watch above. The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) debuts on Netflix October 13.
