A Year of Lil Wayne: "Swizzy"

This has to be one of the best opening lines of a Lil Wayne verse, right?

Day 133: "Swizzy" – Da Drought 3, 2007

This has to be one of the best opening lines of a Lil Wayne verse, right? "I just be chilling in the Phantom, listening to opera." I mean, what an image! I love picturing Lil Wayne listening to opera in his spare time in his fancy car, and I also love this line because I always forget it's riffing on the title Phantom of the Opera until I think about it more closely or in this case write it out.

This also has to be one of the best moments of listening to Wayne just black out on a track, right? About halfway through, as he's just riffing on various names and things he does like those famous names, he pauses like he's about to stop and then raps, "Fuck it Swizz, I'm still goin'." Then, moments later, just as you think there's no way he can keep going with this construction, he drops one of the funniest lines he's ever rapped, in my opinion, which is "Only talk to models, yeah I get my Seal on."

And finally, this has to be one of the best Fleetwood Mac references ever, as well as the most poetic use of the phrase "you're all a bunch of fleas on my dick," right? (The lines in question being "just bought a Fleetwood" and "Fresh, bunch of little Gs on my kicks / I'm a dog / you're all a bunch of fleas on my dick"). Wayne compares someone's grill to a barbecue grill, declares "no homo, let 'em get their queer on," and concludes, "Weezy baby, the best from here on."

Correction: An astute reader pointed out that the "Fleetwood" line is probably not a Fleetwood Mac reference (as in Lil Wayne is buying a Mac-10 and therefore Fleetwood = Fleetwood Mac) but rather, given that the next line is about putting rims on said Fleetwood, that it's a reference to a Cadillac Fleetwood. Now might be a good time to mention I know virtually nothing about cars and also that unfortunately your favorite rap lyrics aren't always as complex as you think they are.
