Minimalist Projection Mapping Proves Sometimes Keeping It Simple Is The Coolest

Portal 1.0 is a low-key-yet-awesome experiment in real-time graphics.

The Creators Project has covered a wide range of projection mapping projects, ranging from the Webby-winning, next-level "Box" by Bot&Dolly, to an installation where artist collective URBANSCREEN mapped the inside of a massive gas tank in Germany. But sometimes keeping it simple is best—after all, almost all projection mapping is pretty mind-blowing.

Thus, a new video by Raven Kwok called Portal 1.0 (gaming fans take note) is an awesome experiment in real-time graphics getting projected on to the surfaces of four cardboard boxes, accompanied by some real-time graphics.

The project was made using Processing and is an updated version of the artist's prior test work, which can be watched below. Sometimes the minimalist stuff is just as cool. Hey, if we knew how to projection map anything ourselves it would feel like a miracle.
