Police Vs Barcelona: Update

Right now everyone in London seems to have moved to Barcelona for the week, to take MDMA and watch Pulp beneath the furious sun at Primavera. Don't be too bitter though, because it's quite possible that right now they're being beaten up by police.

In case you don't know, there's been a protest camp set up in the in Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona since 17th of May. The Spanish have, like a lot of people, been buggered by capitalism in the last few months, and the country has recently taken to complaining about it in large numbers. Anyway, with the Champions League Final a day away, the council finally decided to attempt to clear the protest camp to make way for Barcelona's inevitable victory parade and so the police have come out nightsticking sleepy-eyed students who're sitting on the ground.

One of our editors has just come from there. Apparently drunk indie tourists are being caught up in the fighting too and are looking forlorn beneath their Ray Bans and the police are using rubber bullets; which must be pretty terrifying whether you're a serious Spanish political type, or a hallucinating English festival chump.

Apparently the Spanish "revolution" has been waning over the past few days, but this seems like this will probably inspire the indignation that's needed to get people back on the streets.
