EXHIBITION OF THE WEEK

Hot Topic Hair Extensions Discovered In Polar Ice Cap, 2013. Water, Hair Extensions, Plexiglas, Gravel

If you've heard art students pointing at random objects and saying things like "that is SOOO The Jogging" but aren't sure what they mean, then it's really time to get acquainted. In terms of online art The Jogging is totally a "thing" right now, maybe even "the" thing. The submission-based Tumblr offers a platform for artists to post previously unseen pieces of work, often based around humorous/unusual juxtapositions of physical objects and digital culture.Making the transition from URL to IRL, The Jogging recently launched a new exhibition called Soon at NYC's Still House, showcasing a range of artworks themed around the 2k13 condition of temporality, impermanence, and the “fleeting beauty of [digital] connectivity”. Hot Topic Hair Extensions, Discovered in Polar Ice Cap stands out as a definite favorite for us, but there are many great pieces featured in the exhibition.

RAP CLOTHING LINE OF THE WEEK

If any rapper can legitimately claim to be a digital native then it's Lil B, I mean at one point the guy had over 150 MySpace pages with over 1,500 songs on. If you’re part of Lil B's legion of followers (and wanna make sure everyone knows it), why not get a piece of the #BASED fashion action with something/everything from this new collection by Parsons student Isabel Simpson-Kirsch? It’s a graduate line, so obviously it’s not available in the shops (did I hear someone say Kickstarter?), but we’re totally into pieces like the T-dress, tie-dye bomber jacket ,and custom Timberland boots—all featuring the rapper's face.

ETHICAL ACCESSORY DESIGNERS OF THE WEEK

It’s payday this week! If you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket and are in the market for some hot new accessories we recommend Bond Hardware, a NYC-based label who make futuristic metal accessories out of found objects. Founders Vince Barile and Dana Hurwitz gave us an insight into the background of the brand: “Introduced in the back seat of a Honda Civic, Bond Hardware was born. Hoarding hardware we found on the street lead us to the local hardware store, where we found the inspiration for our first collection. Sporting our pieces in and around the NYC downtown scene, our friends and foes wanted a piece of our work. Bond Hardware grew to meet demand, and we’re still growing—a brand built around inspirational hardware pieces.”

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY REVEAL OF THE WEEK

|

The internet has been awash this week with conspiracy theories surrounding the possible reveal of Apple's rumoured iWatch. It all stems from the company's latest soft-sell video which features a man wearing a watch which no one has been able to attribute to an existing model, leading to speculation it may be an iWatch prototype. Is this rumor-mongering the direct product of the minds of overthinking stoners who leave endless comments on 9/11 videos, or is Apple giving us a genuine flash of the future?

RIDE OF THE WEEK

Though bike lights may be practical, they’re probably not the most stylish accessory in your repetoire, right? Well, Californian company MonkeyLectric is set to change all that, as they’ve just brought out a new Monkey Light Pro system that creates an LED show on your wheels when your bike is moving. Made out of rows of LED light strips, you can use Bluetooth to program custom display graphics and animations. Flashy or what? If your ride could use an upgrade, head to the MonkeyLectric Kickstarter page to support the project.

#MUST-REBLOG ITEM OF THE WEEK

Heard much about BACON lately? No, not your fave meat, the new online creative collective based in Japan. Though pretty new, we’re def into their Tumblr page, which gives links to digital collages and graphics, as well as links to a BACON mix and CD. Best of all though, the group has put together a real line of genuwine clothes, including tees and bags. Hopefully there’ll be more to come!

PET SOCIAL MEDIA OF THE WEEK

As social media continues to infiltrate every aspect of daily life, we’re no longer surprised to see detailed posts about people’s cats, babies, and even lunches saturating our Facebook feeds. Now, a new site called YummyPets has taken the next step, creating the first social media platform dedicated exclusively to pets—and it's just launched in the UK too! From photo galleries to shopping to whatever the hell "pet business" is, there’s something to keep furry friends entertained for hours. Cute/weird? Hey, if it keeps your buddy from sharing a million and one shots of his dog in the bath, we’re down.
