JiMMY BRiCKZ Fights Modern Warfare with His "Savages" in New, Post-Apocalyptic Video

Putting katanas in a music video is always a clear path to success.

Terms like "squad" imply a militaristic bond between friends rather than a group of folks who just want to hit the town or chill in an apartment watching whatever action film is on TV (shouts out to  The Rock, always there when you need it). Toronto's JiMMY BRiCKZ (formerly JiMMY B) has taken that concept to its limit with his video for "Savages," a track off last year's excellent Return of the JiGGY project.

Dressed in an acrid yellow-green palette reminiscent of Denis Villeneuve's similarly Toronto-focused 2013 film Enemy, the clip finds JiMMY and co. wearing menacing gas masks and wielding baseball bats and katanas(!). There's little overt violence but the final shot is chilling nonetheless. "The visual intent for 'Savages' was to create a tonal-based music video that is influenced by the film The Warriors and the post apocalypse but neither in an extreme sense," says director Andre Rehal. "We wanted to create a video that retains the spirit of a modern hip-hop video but have a visual twist with the use of ornate gas masks."
