Moglebaum Drives a Violin Melody Into Computer Beats in "Erde"

They're also named after a Pokemon, which is an inevitable point for coolness.

"Moglebaum" is the German word for a Pokémon that disguises itself as a tree. Yes, exactly the one you're thinking.

But it's also the name of a five-person band from Germany, who run on a mix of jazz and computer-beats. (Our trusty Pokédex says a Moglebaum is generation two Pokémon, but we won't judge.)

What started as a one man project by 22-year-old producer and jazz pianist Simon Ebener-Holscher, has since grown to include four other members, each with distinct musical specialties. Last year, violinist Tonio Geugelin joined the group and melancholic violin melodies have engraved a driving, passionate sound into their new EP Ozean on Cosmonostro.

The band's individuality stems further than Pokémon references, as all of Moglebaum's samples are entirely self-made. By using field recorded sounds of coffee machines, shopping bags, and cactuses, their sound is matchless.

Listen to "Erde" above. The Ozean EP is out on Cosmonostro on February 16, you can preorder it here.
