Chip Kelly is the 49ers New Head Coach

Chip Kelly will replace Jim Tomsula.

San Francisco CEO Jed York announced today that former Eagles and University of Oregon head coach Chip Kelly will be taking Jim Tomsula's place as the 49ers head coach next season.

Earlier in the day, ESPN speculated that the job was down to either Kelly or former Washington and Denver head coach Mike Shanahan. Kelly was fired by Philadelphia with one week to go in the season, after going 6-9 before their final game: a thrilling upset of the New York Giants. Kelly has a connection to the 49ers in senior personnel executive Tom Gamble, who was the Eagles vice president of player personnel for two seasons up until last year.
