New Zealand Has the Highest Youth Suicide Rates Among OECD Countries, Says New Report
Child advocates are calling for more mental health support families after a damning new report by UNICEF found New Zealand has the highest adolescent suicide rates in the OECD.
Health spokesperson for Child Poverty Action Group, Nikki Turner said in a statement New Zealand needs a comprehensive and all-inclusive plan that supports families and provides mental health services for pregnant women and teenagers.
"The first thing is a lot more focus on maternity, early childhood, not leaving them with lots of challenges, stress, low income, and really difficult environments," says Turner. "Then children are more likely to manage through childhood. The second big patch is the teenage years and that's where school based programs can really support healthcare services."
Turner adds that there should be no barriers to health services as presently only 10 percent of New Zealand schools have adequate health care services.

Lessons To Be Learnt From Grenfell Tower Fire to Make New Zealand Buildings Safer
An Auckland building consult is urging the government to review New Zealand certification of aluminium composite panels after the deadly fire that ripped through a London apartment building this week. New Zealand toughened its regulation for cladding earlier this year but Louise Swann says a temporary suspension in these panels is needed until we have all the information necessary to ensure safety.
There have been at least ten other major fires attributed to this type of cladding since 2007.

Fonterra is Pulling Milk Off Shelves After Reports of Unpleasant Flavours
A voluntary recall has been issued of several batches of Anchor blue-top milk around the lower North Island after customers reported the milk tasted odd.
Fonterra is investigating what exactly has caused a change in the milk's taste, with Foodstuffs chain owner claiming the taste may have been caused by feed given to the cows.
Customers who have already purchased the affected milk are welcome to return the milk for a refund. Fonterra says despite the unusual flavour, the milk is still safe to drink.

American Lobbyist For Russian Interests Confirms He Attended Dinners Hosted By Jeff Sessions
Richard Burt, a former ambassador to Germany during the Reagan administration who has represented Russian interests in Washington, revealed he attended a Sessions hosted dinner during the 2016 presidential campaign. This comes as a direct contradiction to the attorney general's sworn testimony given this week.
Sessions reportedly invited Burt so that he could discuss issues of national security and foreign policy.
When Senator John McCain asked Sessions in this week's hearing about whether the attorney general had ever had any contacts with any representative, including any American lobbyist or agent of any Russian company during the 2016 campaign, Sessions said he did not.
Sessions' response and Burt's statements invite even more scrutiny of the already maligned attorney general's testimony.

Polish Prime Minister Accused of Using Auschwitz Service For Political Gain
Beata Szydlo has attended a ceremony at the Nazi death camp marking the 77th anniversary of the first Nazi Transport of Polish prisoners, and is being accused of using the event to comment on new government policy announced just days prior that Poland would not accept its allocation of refugees.
Auschwitz was the largest death camp with approximately 1.1 million victims which included Jews, Poles, Roma and homosexuals.
Szydol's remarks that everything must be done to defend the safety and lives of citizens were interpreted as defending her nationalist migrant policy and exploiting the tragedy of Auschwitz to deter Poles from inviting refugees.
