It didn’t take long for Trump 2020 to capitalize on the Kanye tweets.
The day after the rapper tweeted out pro-Trump messages and a pic of his autographed MAGA hat, the president’s re-election campaign referred to him in a fund-raising text sent to supporters.
“You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him,” Kanye had tweeted Wednesday to his 28 million followers, going off about his and Trump's shared “dragon energy.”
The president, in kind, praised Kanye in his rambling interview on Fox News Thursday morning, and then a few hours later, the campaign texts went out, with the heading “DON’T BE SILENCED.”
“Group think is a mandate in today’s society, and when a free thinker like Kanye West speaks truth, they attack him,” they said. “We support Kanye speaking his mind, even if sometimes we do not agree on the issues.”
“Do not let them silence you. Get your red MAGA hat today >>>” the message said, with a link to buy Trump’s signature, $25 red baseball hat.
Kanye’s taking flack for his tweets, though. Turns out being a pro-Trump rapper with an enormous platform isn’t something that many of his fans are happy about.
John Legend even texted him about it, and Kanye shared the exchange in a tweet.
But no matter the opposition, the GOP will glom onto any fundraising opportunity that comes their way.
