Daily commutes are usually boring. We listen to music or read a book, before arriving at our destination. But a woman in Malaysia had quite the traumatic experience earlier this week when she fell into an escalator during her commute.

The unidentified woman was at Kuala Lumpur’s Sentral train station on Monday when she rode one of the escalators. The machine malfunctioned while she was on the top step, which resulted in her falling through and getting stuck in between a collapsed step and the escalator ledge, Coconuts reported.

A photo of the incident shows the woman leaning over the ledge, with her legs in the hole. Bystanders can be seen helping her.

According to Rapid KL, which operates public transportation in Kuala Lumpur, the woman sustained injuries because of the incident.

“She has been taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment and we are monitoring her condition closely to ensure that she gets the medical attention and assistance she needs,” Rapid KL said on Facebook.

“The escalator is now decommissioned and an investigation was launched immediately to identify the cause of the malfunction.”

It could have gone worse.

In 2015, a mother in China died after a metal panel at the top of an escalator collapsed, causing her to fall into the gap. She managed to throw her son forward to safety just seconds before.
