GOP Delays Healthcare Vote and Demands New CBO Score

Without enough GOP support, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell decided to delay the healthcare vote until after the July 4 recess.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell abruptly decided to delay the GOP's healthcare vote until after July 4 after he was unable to convince five dissident GOP Senators—three from the right and two from the left—to back the bill.

Because the Senate is divided 52 to 48 McConnell can only afford to lose three votes and pass the bill with VP Mike Pence casting the tie-breaker. McConnell wants time to include changes and apparently, a new score from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which estimated on Monday that the bill as written would leave an additional 22 million uninsured over Obamacare by the end of the decade.

The CBO estimate seemed to galvanize opposition to the bill particularly with Senators in states that would be adversely impacted by caps on Medicaid spending, such as Nevada and Maine. Continue reading on VICE News.
