Fake Campaign Fliers in Winnipeg Literally Told Voters to Go Fuck Themselves

With everything that's happened this election, you could almost mistake them for genuine.

An NDP candidate's face is currently plastered on a series of inflammatory fake fliers that cropped up in Winnipeg last week, some of which have statements such as "Go fuck yourself" written on them.

The two fliers featured the name and face of outspoken incumbent NDP MP Pat Martin and showed up in the candidate's Winnipeg Centre riding last week. One had naughty words that could only be heard on cable TV, while the other came with a clearly fake letter from "Martin" himself.

"I've used salty language because I'm passionate," one of the fliers says, a nod to Martin's previous use of profanity. "If you vote for the effeminate Trudeau you are delusional. If you vote for Harper you are an asshole I am Winnipeg Centre's only hope." [all sic]

The flier is then pockmarked with bolded words and phrases such as "Slut" and "Rat Face Whore" before ending with, "If you don't vote for me you're an asshole."

The other flier features a manifesto-like series of anti-capitalist campaign promises, none of which the NDP have yet made.

Martin's campaign manager Lorraine Sigurdson told VICE that the fliers did "absolutely not" come from their office and that she finds the fliers to be "insulting to democracy."

"While an election is a time for everyone to express their opinions, falsely representing a candidate or a party is an affront to democracy and is simply unfair to everyone," she told VICE via email.

Sigurdson said that the fliers were in circulation at a few local fast food restaurants but did not appear to be in large numbers. She also noted that no more fliers have appeared and that she has since contacted Elections Canada to investigate.

When asked whether she could comment on the fliers being a possible poke at Martin's comments in September when he muttered "you son of a bitch" to Green Party rival Don Woodstock, Sigurdson said she could not comment on the motives of the perpetrator.

"I have no idea why anyone would want to do this," she said. "I don't know what event caused them to do this but it's just plain wrong."

And so ends about the 14th-weirdest story of this fucked up, dumpster fire of an election campaign.
