Mount Kimbie About How and Why They Make Music

Film, found sounds and a Scottish drummer for starters.

For our latest episodes of Supersonic, we headed to Mountain Oasis Festival (October 25-27) in Asheville, North Carolina. In it's debut year, the festival presented an impressive line-up spanning from Nine Inch Nails and Gary Numan to Bassnectar and Disclosure, playing in clubs and arenas throughout the Downtown areakind of like a mini-SXSW for the mountain set. While there we interviewed Cut Copy, Mount Kimbie, Silver Apples, and T. Williams about what goes into making their music.

Mount Kimbie are undoubtedly one of the most talked about live acts in electronic music, sweeping up the shards of UK garage, IDM, and post-rock and gluing into something that sounds deliciously new and delightfully ambient. We sat down with Dominic Maker, half of the duo (with Kai Campos) and talked to him about found sounds, becoming comfortable on stage, and the relationship between their music and his film background. And afterwards we enjoyed their multi-layered live show at Asheville's Orange Peel.
