NORTHMIX: Paul Quzz

The ALL BLAK label boss wants your experience as a listener to be an exploration.

Musical exploration can hardly be attributed to scrolling the Similar Artists slider on your iTunes. You'll eventually end up in a rut of cruddy artists you never cared to encounter in the first place, and going backwards—forget it. There is no breadcrumb to trail back to the artists you had originally clicked on and now you're being recommend to Katy Perry's discography.

For true dance music enthusiasts, musical exploration is rooted on the dance floor. A fusion of sound and art is what constructs the ever-winding path of exploration. That is, for Paul Quzz. The Toronto DJ/producer is far from a new face to the local scene—having often entranced techno devotees from Switch Nightclub to The Hoxton. The ALL BLAK label boss wants his music to be an exploration conducted by the listener—thus he's groomed a perfect live set for this installment of Northmix. The hour and a half mix is done on four channels simultaneously and supplies us with a beefy portion of techno and house that dips into a darker side.

"The 90 minutes serve as a time of exploration. All the tracks were hand-picked based on the way they worked with the track being played either before or after it," he explains.
