Joe Goddard's New Collab Is A Touch Of Class

Moko and Kidnap Kid bring the best out in the Hot Chip boy.

Monki, Moko, Kidnap Kid and The 2 Bears sound like the cast of a particularly fucked-up CBeebies show, but in fact these are the Brit dance luminaries involved in a classy three-way collab single titled "Let Me Go." To be precise, soul vocalist Moko, Matt Relton (AKA producer, Kidnap Kid) and Joe Goddard of house duo The 2 Bears (as well as Hot Chip) have come together alongside a host of other artists for the new Monki & Friends mixtape EP, curated by the titular BBC simian herself. "Let Me Go" is the EP's lead single.

If you get Goddard and Relton in a studio together with a powerful vocalist like Moko, you might think that some big-room house would be the order of the day. Instead, "Let Me Go" is a beautifully restrained prospect that's all low-end suspense and subtle ambience, powered by spidery snares and exposed R&B vocals. It's odd yet sophisticated, like bathing in prosecco.

There's more of these cross-genre collabs to come on the 6-track EP.  The EP was made in association with Red Bull Studios, who let the whole rabble in to their snazzy premises to tear shit up.
