Lamar Odom Now Conscious Enough to Ask to See His Kids

The basketball star's precarious condition seems to be headed in the right direction.

After a horrifying week in which he appeared at times to be at death's door, Lamar Odom was awake enough to respond "yes" when asked if he wanted to see his kids on Friday, according to Entertainment Tonight. While reports are still unclear as to whether it was a verbal or physical communication, the news is the most promising yet for the 35-year-old basketball star.

If confirmed, this would be the first time this week that Odom has awakened from his medically-induced coma, which was initiated on Monday. Odom has been recovering from a cocktail of cocaine and "herbal Viagra" after a three-day binge that took ended in a legal brothel in Nevada with Odom unconscious and bleeding from the mouth.

Yesterday, Odom's children came out and made their first statement to Entertainment Tonight,

"Thanks for your outpouring of prayers and support for our dad," said Destiny and Lamar Odom Jr. "We are here with our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers."

USA Today reports that Odom was also able to open his eyes. There's no clear medical prognosis yet, but given that Odom was feared dead earlier this week after a heart attack and organ failure, it is good, for Odom and his family and everyone else that wishes him well, to finally have some good news.
