How in the… but how?

Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk, who is a slightly lesser-known part of the incredible 2016 rookie crop in the NHL (at least to those outside of Calgary), made a real heads-up play resulting in a gorgeous game-tying goal against Arizona on Wednesday.

After picking up the puck off a broken draw in the Coyotes end, the sixth overall pick in the 2016 draft cut to the net and banked a wrist shot right of the mask of goaltender Mike Smith, who was left looking a little stunned afterwards.

"There was enough there that I had to bank it off his head," Tkachuk said of the crafty goal.

Tkachuk played on the CHL's best line last season, putting up 107 points en route to a Memorial Cup championship playing alongside Maple Leafs super rookie Mitch Marner with the OHL's London Knights.

The goal was Tkachuk's fourth of his young NHL career and tied the game 1-1 in the third period. Calgary went on to get a huge win in overtime thanks to Michael Frolik's game winner.
