A.J. Soares Helps Keeper Up, Shoves Him Back Down

A.J. Soares acted like he was trying to help the Galaxy keeper off the pitch, but once he got him standing up right, he threw him back down.

As the final seconds of extra time ticked away in the L.A. Galaxy's 2-1 win over the New England Revolution in the MLS Cup, Revs defender A.J. Soares was fed up. He and Galaxy keeper Jaime Penedo collided while chasing down a loose ball in front of the goal, and Soares felt Penedo was faking an injury and taking his time to get up so full time would be called. To avoid such an outcome, Soares helped Penedo up…and then promptly dumped him. It was high comedy if not quite so sporting.

Galaxy fans behind the goal were none too pleased, however. There is perhaps no better visual in sports than the aggrieved fan flipping off a player two seats away from a small, incredulous kid watching her childhood innocence vanish before her eyes.

A few seconds later the final whistle blew and L.A. are your The MLS champs.
