VICE Sports World News Roundup: August 25

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 25th of August, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA. Like someone who is too arrogant to take lawyerly advice and keep his mouth shut, the man keeps giving interviews. The latest was with the BBC and it aired yesterday: "I have my conscience and I know I'm an honest man. I am clean. I am not a worried man," he said.

The sad news out of Indycar got worse, yesterday. Justin Wilson, the driver who was in a coma after a piece of debris from a crash involving Sage Karam hit him in the head, died. He was 37.

American sprinter Justin Gatlin, who recently lost to Usain Bolt in the 100 meter World Championships, is boycotting the British media for, in the Guardian's words, "styling the showdown as a battle of good and evil." Gatlin is suspected of doping.

Another World Athletics Champion gold medal winner, Polish hammer thrower Pawel Fajdek, apparently got drunk celebrating and misplaced his medal. After his taxi ride to his Beijing hotel, Faidek mistook his gold medal for some kind of more modest coin. From The Independent: "Officers reportedly set about helping him retrace his steps the night before and managed to trace the taxi driver - who told them Fajdek had willingly handed his medal over in payment."

Sebastian Giovinco might be the best player to ever play in MLS while still at the peak of his powers. Friend of the program Howard Megdal caught up with the wee Italian genius. Read the whole thing, but Giovinco says he's playing the best soccer of his life right now, and it's hard to disagree. Here's the dude doing work earlier this season:

It's transfer time in world soccer (aka "silly season"), and I do my best to allow only the juiciest transfer gossip onto the prestigious pages of the VICE Sports Morning Roundup. Today, one story made the cut: The Sun, Britain's the world's most reputable news source, is reporting that Manchester United are set to pay 240 million pounds for Neymar. That's $378,912,000.

The Sun also broke the following: West Ham striker Diafra Sakho was arrested in London for "threats to kill and witness intimidation."

Marca published video from Pedro Rodriguez's last press conference with Barcelona. He discusses his move to Chelsea and, when one reporter asks him about Jose Mourinho, a bunch of his teammates whistle, which is basically the Spanish version of booing. Mou, who used to coach Real Madrid, isn't exactly a popular guy in the Catalan capital.
