Glow Headphones want you to “feel the beat.” Using laser light technology, these smart in-ear buds illuminate with the rhythm of the music pumping through them or the rhythmic pulse of your heartbeat. After launching a Kickstarter just yesterday to bring the designs beyond the prototype stage, the team has already successfully surpassed their $100,000 goal. Below, watch a product video produced by and starring Reuben Wu of Ladytron, who in the past created a timelapse music video for Xu Xu Fang.
“Music is inherently a very expressive medium, and having light synchronized with music makes that whole experience better,” Glow Headphones explains in their video. The inspirations for the project range from Star Wars lightsabers to Tron, Daft Punk, and childhood books and movies that portrayed lasers as the technologies of the future.
What makes Glow Headphones glow are the thin Corning® Fibrance™ light diffusing optical glass fibers that can be easily bent without affecting luminosity. Because the wire is so tiny, it goes unnoticed without a power source, as does the integrated heart rate sensor driving the headphones' visual pulse.
Not only are they, they're also intelligent and intuitive. The five-way controller clip that bridges the two earbuds can connect to smartphones, allowing users to control their music, access phone apps, and even hail Siri or use Google Now. With the one-two punch of innovative lighting and smart design, Glow Headphones hopes to make the experience of listening to music more vibrant.
