Watch: South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley Calls for Removing the Confederate Flag

At a press conference Monday, Haley led bipartisan push to take down the rebel flag that flies in front of the South Carolina state Capitol.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley called for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state capitol Monday, responding to public outcry in the wake of last week's racially motivated shooting in Charleston, in which a white supremacist gunned down nine people at a black church. Twenty-one-year-old Dylann Roof, the confessed shooter, posed in photos with the Confederate flag and with the number 88, the Nazi code for "Heil Hitler."

"It's time to remove the flag from the Capitol grounds," Haley said at a press conference. "The flag, while an integral part of our past, does not represent the future of our state."

Haley was joined by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, including South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican presidential candidate in 2016 who similarly endorsed taking down the rebel flag that flies over the grounds of South Carolina's state house.
