Noisey AUS/NZ’s Best Tracks of 2014: 25-11

We got our writers to pick their jams of the year.

So, it’s that time of year again. The ‘best of’ list season. Whether you think these lists shine a light on the most interesting and exciting music of the year or are just pissing contests to see in what order FKA twigs or The War on Drugs are placed (maybe a bit of column A and column B), they can also be good fun, if only for the bitchy comments. “How the fuck can you place Lana Del Rey ahead of YG?!”

So Lorde didn’t release an album but it’s still been a good year for Australian and New Zealand music. From the punk praise heaped on Total Control to the Top 40 and Grammy busting pop of Sia, to the emergence of small Kiwi labels such as Kerosone Comic Book and Melted Ice Cream, 2014 has gotten some of us excited.

We start with a quick rundown of 25 to 11 tracks of the year, before a more in-depth look at our top 10 tomorrow.

(A quick note on housekeeping - Noisey exists in a bunch of countries around the world and each office is getting their own shout on their tracks and albums of the year. This list was decided by Noisey AU/NZ’s editorial team and writers, but is not limited to Australian and New Zealand music.)
