Listen to the Horror Film Soundtrack Inspired Darkness of Crypt Vapor

Channeling the tense darkness of John Carpenter and Goblin these are some mysterious and haunting sounds.

The force behind Crypt Vapor is known as The Death. There’s not much in the way of information floating around about the Death other than that he writes and produces epic and electronic horror soundtrack inspired sounds.

This is shadowy music that pulsates with the darkness of John Carpenter, Goblin and Tangerine Dream. It’s tense. Tense like the Ben Tramer death scene in Halloween II.

Tasmanian label Heavy Chains are set to release Crypt Vapor’s Tombe Della Citta album which features a new EP as well as the sold out Erotik Maniac and Panic Night material.

We had a chat to the Death on the cold, eerie and misty eve of the album’s release.

Noisey: How did you first get into this horror soundtrack inspired music?
The Death: My background is one of roaming the depths of the burial catacombs of Rome, breathing in the musty air riddled with the scent of the death, creaking black leather gloves and a Wade and Butcher razor blade that I keep in my coat at all times. My music is simply these things applied to sine waves and dark modulations.

Do you have a favourite John Carpenter soundtrack?
John Carpenter's work is of course some of the greatest horror melody put to tape. He is the master of adding further dread to the visuals of his films. It is hard to say which is best, I think for minimalism Escape from New York, but the soundtrack from They Live is also excellent.

How about favourite horror film?
Life is a movie in which we all play a part. It is my favorite horror film.

Would you like to one-day score or soundtrack a real horror film?
If some filmmaker ever wanted some uncompromising horror vibrations to accompany their visions I would be interested.

Goblin are pioneers but anyone else in this particular style that we should be checking out?
Those who seek modern horror music would do well to seek out the works of Spettro Family, Rogue Hotline, Armour Group, Blizzaro, Tony Tears, Abysmal Grief etc

I imagine your live show would involve a lot of smoke. Is that how it works?
It is important to strike the terror of the death into the hearts of those who choose to witness my performances. Smoke is just one of the tools I use to create an atmosphere of paranoia and sleaze.

'Tombe Della Citta' will be available soon on Heavy Chains.
