Here's Que and Sonny Digital's New Video for "Swa-ray"

Plus, we interview the pair, who are quickly becoming Atlanta rap mainstays.

Que’s “Young Nigga” has been a mainstay at any party where turn-up arms are appropriate for a few months now. Unfortunately, the track featured the scorching hot Migos during their rise to national prominance (and relevance to Drake). This bad timing meant “Young Nigga” ended up seeming like a Migos song to most people and Que got lost in the shuffle.

Don’t worry about Que (say “cue”) though, as he’s got a buzz of his own and the backing of the in-demand producer Sonny Digital (who did 2 Chainz and Kanye’s “Birthday Song,” Future’s “Racks” and “Same Damn Time”, and has also worked with Juicy J, Waka Flocka, Gucci Mane and many others). Que and Sonny—who is rapping here too—put out the Forbes Atlanta mixtape earlier this year, a highly enjoyable slice of Atlanta street rap.

We’re proud to premiere the video for “Swa-ray”, the first clip from the tape. I also caught up on the phone with the duo.

Why did y'all do a house party vibe for the video?
Sonny: We have these parties at my spot, we call it Club 516—that’s my apartment number. Instead of having a big budget, I just wanted to have a little party and basically do what we do!

A lot of people had “kickbacks,” it’s more of a chill type vibe. People just chillin' in the house and not really turning up. I ain’t gonna say we’re doin' something different, but when we would do kickbacks, but there’d be so much alcohol and so many bitches … everybody just gettin' drunk and having a good time. We got stripper poles upstairs, we got speakers, we got everything we need! That’s why we call it Club 516 because it felt like a mini club.

I call what we do the turn-up as opposed to the kickback. We say “turn-up at club 516” tonight and everybody comes out. I swear it’s really a like a club. We used to do it at least once a week but they kept shutting us down, so now I only open it up for certain events. Like 4th of July.
Que: We wanted to do something different … they always got the sparklers in the gold bottles and the Ciroc. So we put it in the 40s.

Whose face is blanked out in the video?
Sonny: (laughs) I didn’t really know the situation and they told me afterwards. I was too drunk to realize what was going on, but they told me later she was acting all bougie and she wouldn’t get in the video unless she could stand next to me. So we had to get her back. If I had known that was going on, I would not have let her get in the video! Honestly, I think she could fuck around and blow up off that because everyone’s gonna be wondering who the hell that is.
Que: Do we even know her real name though?
Sonny: Umm …
Que: Yeah we don’t know her real name anyways so …

Que what’s next for you?
Que: I got Who Is Que coming out, I’m aiming for August but i don’t want to rush it. People so used to hearing me on tracks with different people so I don’t think I’m gonna put that many features on there. I got OJ the Juiceman on one and Ty$ too.
