All photos courtesy of MisterWivesAlthough MisterWives’ debut album just came out on Tuesday, you’ve probably heard their jams—unapologetically pop, but well-crafted and refreshingly experimental—and you’ve definitely heard their band name, a clever riff on “sister wives” that’s not easy to forget and that has presumably won them no Mormon fans. They’ll do just fine, though, because their soulful dance-funk is relentlessly catchy, and lead singer Mandy Lee is totally captivating, especially when she takes the stage in her crop tops, high-waisted shorts, and butt-skimming mermaid hair. After spending last season opening up for Bleachers, they’re heading out on their own headline tour later this month, with man-of-the-moment BØRNS and synth-pop newcomer Handsome Ghost in tow.Amid doing a bunch of big-time press (they played Late Night with Seth Meyers and Good Morning America this week alone), Lee—the only lady in the five-piece—talked to us about what she likes to wear when she’s dancing her heart out in front of screaming fans, and what she’ll be packing when they head out across the U.S. “I love incorporating all types of styles and sounds into the music we make, which translates into my personal style,” she said. And, aside from an obsession with white Docs, she added, “I love fun, bright, colorful clothes which I think is what our music sounds like.” She speaks the truth.“The photographer we worked with for the photo shoot for our album cover bought a pack from a craft store and I’ve been using it as eye shadow!”"Comfortable, badass, classic.”“Being on the road or just playing shows all the time doesn’t really allow time for showers so this makes me look clean!”“Colored lips are more fun and Mac doesn’t test on animals! I always use matte products, the glossy stuff gets all over when I’m singing.”“My eyebrow game needs to be on fleek and I occasionally tweeze the boys in MisterWives’ eyebrows.”Casey Lewis does this every week.
