Holychild Flip Through Their Old Photo Albums

Plus stream their entire debut album, 'The Shape of Brat Pop to Come.'

Holychild first piqued interest a couple of years ago thanks to a clutch of zingy synth-pop hits like "Playboy Girl" and "Happy with Me." This prompted us to invite ourselves into their makeshift apartment to watch singer Liz customize the crap out of a bunch of secondhand clothes. It's amazing what you can do with some savvy snip-snip-snipping. The LA-based duo, completed by Louie, return on 6.2 with their debut album The Shape of Brat Pop to Come (out on Glassnote), which as you might suspect from the title. is a snap, crackle, pop collection of bubblegum melodies, ratatat beats, and fuzzy synth lines, and you can listen to the whole thing, a week ahead of release, above.

To celebrate this—and their thread flair—we asked the band to dig deep into their old photo albums and pull out some solid gold #tbts to talk us through their musical and sartorial evolution.

Louie: That's me just trying to figure it out, still trying to figure it out.

Liz: Forever in love with this outfit.

Louie: Patiently waiting to eat some chocolate.

Louie: Living it up in the Bay! Was kind of obsessed with the composer Aaron Copland at this time.

Liz: Second grade when I decided shoulder pads were coming back. I was so in love with the album What's the Story Morning Glory? by Oasis and I was actually bullied for talking about it a bunch.

Louie: Me trying to be too cool for school by not smiling and my older brother Martin in the background being a punk. Heavily into Zeppelin, Muse, and Mars Volta at this point in my life.

Liz: This was my freshman year. I learned not to wear off-the-shoulder shirts for yearbook photos because the way it was cropped made me look naked. Oops. Also my sister had straightened my hair with an iron for this one. I was super into pop punk at this point. NoFX, New Found Glory, Bright Eyes, Something Corporate.

Liz: This is sophomore year of high school. I was really into String Cheese Incident, Moe., Pepper, Ted Leo, Bela Fleck. Also wore tie dye every day and I never ever wore jeans.

And Holychild now!
