On September 17, 2014, in Phoenix, AZ, Jonathan Dwyer was arrested and booked on six charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of criminal damage, after two alleged incidents—occurring on consecutive days in July 2014—of domestic violence involving his wife and 17-month-old son. According to the police report, his wife alleged that Dwyer "attempted to kiss her and remove her clothing." After she repeatedly told him to stop, she bit his lip. He then allegedly head-butted her, breaking her nose.

The following day, according to the police report, Dwyer allegedly punched his wife and threw a shoe, which hit their child in the stomach. Dwyer's wife fled the state and reported the incidents to the Phoenix Police Department via telephone once she felt safe. According to the police report, Dwyer admitted to an altercation but denied that it was physical.

In January 2015, in a plea agreement, Dwyer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and a domestic violence offense. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation plus community service. The remaining charges were dismissed. He was never formally charged for hitting his son, who had no injuries.

Immediately following his arrest, Dwyer was deactivated from Cardinals team activities. He is currently a free agent.
