Thom Yorke of Radiohead Is Scoring the Remake of a Legendary Horror Film

Radiohead’s famous frontman is composing his first-ever movie score—for 'Suspiria.'

You've heard him during your saddest times, how about your most terrifying? Radiohead's Thom Yorke has been brought on to score the upcoming remake of Dario Argento's 1977 cult classic, Suspiria. Announced earlier today by Frenesy Films and Mythology Entertainment, it will be Yorke's first-ever feature film score, and we can't imagine what his unparalleled musicianship will bring to the thrilling horror epic.

"To have him lend his talent to Suspiria is an extraordinary gift, both to us as filmmakers and to audiences, who have a remarkable, terrifying and emotionally stirring experience in store for them," write producers Marco Morabito and Brad Fischer. Set in Berlin in 1977, the film follows Susie Banning, a young American ballerina who travels to Germany to dance for the prestigious Markos Tanz Company. As she begins to settle in with the troupe, Banning begins to suspect she's in the company of terrible secret. The film is set to star Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, Chloë Grace Moretz, and original Suspiria star, Jessica Harper.

The upcoming Suspiria remake is being helmed by Luca Guadagnino, the rising star Italian director responsible for Call Me by Your Name and A Bigger Splash. In regards to Yorke, Guadagnino writes, "Thom's art transcends the contemporary. To have the privilege of his music and sound for Suspiria is a dream come true. The depth of his creation and artistic vision is so unique that our Suspiria will sound groundbreaking and will deeply resonate with viewers. Our goal is to make a movie that will be a disturbing and transforming experience: for this ambition, we could not find a better partner than Thom."

The film's music supervisor, Robin Urdang, is being credited as playing a key role in negotiating the deal with Yorke. Although this is Yorke's first score for a feature film, he isn't the only Radiohead member to break into Hollywood—lead guitarist and keyboardist Jonny Greenwood is a frequent collaborator with Paul Thomas Anderson, composing scores for films such as There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Inherent Vice.
