No, no, it’s not another list. It’s a mixtape, the finest in innovative, future-forward sounds assembled by your pals at Motherboard. You get one track a day from now until the end of the year, and then it all comes together into the best document of the future of music seen from the year 2011 on the internet.

.07 Andy Stott, “Execution”

Here’s some anti-holiday anti-cheer to rinse out some of those good feelings going around. Manchester-based producer Andy Stott didn’t so much reinvent techno earlier this year on his Passed Me By but follow its darker impulses deep enough that by the time you’re finished, it’s anyone’s guess what kind of music with what kind of spirit you even started with. It might even out-creep Burial. The slow, congealing pulse of “Execution” and it’s dirty, dubby atmosphere — atmosphere in the sense of swirling, acrid smoke — do indeed feel a bit like you’d imagine last steps down a dank prison tunnel to the electric chair might feel like. Merry Christmas.
