Notes from the Underground: Kalyde, Great Dane, Mr. Gonzo, Dirtytalks, Give In, Endigo

Welcome to Notes from the Underground, THUMP's weekly premiere feature dedicated to shining a light on underground sonics from around the world. Every week, we'll start at the surface and dig deeper into the underground with each track. In this week's edition, we've got everything from warehouse techno to slick house beats, feelsy vocal jams and some deep, deep dubstep - and you can check them all out at this one-stop shop. Vibey Bristolian producer Kalyde has been on a tear recently with releases on MadTech and Nervous. He's followed up a mix on Monki's BBC Radio 1 show with a release on her own Zoo Music label. In keeping with Kalyde's now signature sound, "Infected Ear" is pure warehouse vibes, six minutes of a pulsing bassline over a strident, kick-heavy beat and atmosphere for days. This dude can do no wrong right now.

Team Supreme OG Dane Morris is on the verge of releasing his 3rd LP on seminal LA underground label Alpha Pup. His tune "DVN3" is on that laid-back, tripped out hip-hop tip, with a beefy bass under some sinister synths and flecks of percussion flitting all over the mix.

French producer Mr. Gonzo's first release on the freshly minted CR2 Underground is a 2-track that's already gotten support from Annie Mac and Monki on BBC Radio. The tune "Boss" is a sultry house number with half-sexy-half-creepy vocals atop. This might be a UK-facing iteration of G-House. Dare we say…grime house? This one's a free download, so get your mitts all over it.

Give In turned up on THUMP radar's with his cover (yes, cover) of Claude VonStroke's "CaliFuture" last year. The tune went on to be signed to a Dirtybird remix release and since then the Angeleno producer/dj/singer/musician/tech guru's gone from strength to strength. He's now lent vocals to Dirtytalks on the slick and soulful "Keep on Walking." The tune balances sugary vocal melodies with a warped bass sound and a propulsive song structure and it's not-quite-summer-yet sound is a perfect accompaniment to a spring evening.

Deep dubstep is thriving in the Los Angeles underground and the crew holding the torch highest is MASS. Label heavy hitter Endigo keeps things vibey on this chiller of a tune that a balances a latent jah rasta swagger with dark atmospherics and sugary sweet vocals.
