Pizza is the late-night hero to drunk and starving stomachs. It's the thing you eat after you've been dumped and before watching your favorite film. Pizza is your friend. And New York pizza might be the greatest in the universe, especially if you ask New Yorkers. But what, exactly, makes it so unique?

New York City's water supply system is one of the most extensive municipal water systems in the world. It meets the daily needs of the city's over eight million residents and visitors alike. Is there something in the water that could hold the secret to a quality slice?

On the latest episode of MUNCHIES: The Podcast, I met up with Best Pizza owner and host of our brand new pizza show, The Pizza Show, Frank Pinello, to try to help answer this question. We headed over to Artichoke Pizza to chat with owners Sal Basille and Francis Garcia over grandma slices about the city's tap water, why New York pizza should watch its back, and discovered something strange about Keith Richard's relationship with pizza in the process.
