Steven Souza Seals No-Hitter With Ridiculous Diving Catch For Final Out

Steven Souza saves no-hitter with incredible diving catch.

Jordan Zimmermann threw a no-hitter on the last day of the regular season for the Nationals against Miami yesterday. Steven Souza was a defensive replacement for Ryan Zimmerman out in left field in the ninth inning and, ho-ly shit, did that move ever pay off. Souza tracked down a gapper off Christian Yelich's bat and laid out for the final out of the game, preserving the no-hitter and sending Zimmermann on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Watch Zimmermann in this video from MLB Network; it's great. Off the bat, he's certain Yelich just ended his bid after 26 outs with a sure double. He walks off the mound dejected and then Souza dives for the ball and his reaction is the body language equivalent of Wait, what? YES!

The Nats clinched home field earlier in the week and await the winner of the Giants-Pirates wild card playoff game Wednesday night. The NLDS doesn't begin until Friday, so they've got some time to enjoy the highlights.
