Vince Staples, Now with a Song, Says: “Get the Fuck Off My Dick”

Earlier this week, Vince Staples responded to criticism of his music and live shows by launching a GoFundMe page, on which he offered to "shut the fuck up forever" if he could get donations of $2 million. This, obviously, is hilarious (and also the overwhelming 2018 mood). Now to make it even funnier, he has released an accompanying track, entitled "Get the Fuck Off My Dick," in the spirit of the video he made to announce his crowdfunding campaign. Hear it below.

The song, of course, is great, with a chill, piano-based beat, and uncompromising lyrics that see Staples consider his own standing in music right now. More than that, he gets into the criticism that frustrated him into trolling everyone in the first place. "Yeah, I ain't taking no more calls, might think bout calling it quits / Press is trying to block my blessings, no more talking to Vince / NPR and XXL, man, I can't tell which is which," he raps, talking about the monotony of interviews, and the way they represent him. The track as a whole is a wry re-centring of the narrative back onto the music, and is typical of Staples' witty approach to his art. Excellent stuff from an artist we're very glad to hear won't be shutting the fuck up anytime soon (even if we do hope he actually does buy a puppy with the money he raised).
