Michelle Obama gave a powerful speech to cap off the first night of the Democratic National Convention Monday and moved many in Philadelphia and at home to tears when she spoke of watching her daughters play on the White House lawn outside a "house that was built by slaves."

But while that stirring piece of imagery made most marvel at the strides this country has made since its founding, Fox News personality and history buff Bill O'Reilly decided he would fact-check the line, essentially telling viewers the slaves who built the Obamas' house really didn't have it all that bad.

"Slaves that worked there were well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government," O'Reilly said Tuesday in the Factor Tip of the Day segment on his show, The O'Reilly Factor. "I just can't get rid of that history teacher thing. You know what I'm talking about?"

The host also pointed out that a lot of free laborers worked on the White House, too, and two years after John Adams moved in the government stopped hiring slave labor, so don't feel too bad.

He ended the brief history lesson with, "So Michelle Obama is essentially correct in citing slaves as builders of the White House, but there were others working as well. Got it all?"
