Christian Gordy is a guy we know who moved to Brooklyn in 2009 after our buds in the band Cheeseburger offered him a slot as their new bassist. Good life move, Christian. We can’t remember the last time they actually played a show, so he usually spends his time tending bar at the Levee and falling off his bike which he only rides drunk. Considering that he's down to one real leg, he should probably stop doing that.
And to combat the utter boredom and depression New York winters bring, he created a blog of superweird illustrations based on this guy he calls “Wesley Snipes, the Artist.” Yes, like the actor. No, he doesn’t seem to connect the real Snipes with his fictional character. Snipes' style loosely resembles southern outsider artists like R.A. Miller, Willie Jinks, Tubby Brown, and Royal Robertson. Christian said Wesley is his “mentally challenged, delusional alter ego.” Once you start scrolling through misspelled text and frenzied drawings the description seems fitting. Picture a smiley James Brown in gold Africa pendant, hamburger perched an inch above his head, and text below reading, “jaems brown gave many gifs to litel childrin.” That's the work of The Artist.
