In the Heartbreakers series, we look at the dance floor tearjerkers that make your night special, whether that's at the height of your high or the plateau. Electronic music has the power to break hearts and this is an appreciation of those songs. This time round, Anjunabeats signing Grum gets weepy behind the decks. Weirdly, he's plumped for a French classic that's already been mentioned in this series before, so we can only assume that "In Love With You" by Paradise is the saddest dance record ever made.This tune takes me back to a very special time for electronic music. I got into the whole Justice and Ed Banger thing around 2006. After minimal house and techno had almost completely taken over clubs for the previous couple of years, it was so refreshing to hear this new, weird and eclectic take on dance music. This track, a collaboration between Alan Braxe and Romuald, was released in 2003 but fitted into the whole aesthetic of the time perfectly.I don't actually remember where I first heard it, but this was the heyday of blog house and the internet was still a bit wild west with regards to respecting copyright — it probably "magically" ended up in my downloads folder (please don't tell Alan Braxe. Please).The song itself is so incredibly simple, but aren't they often the best? It's basically an uplifting piano chord sequence, 10cc backing vocals and the "In love with you" vocal looped over and over for four minutes, but crafted so masterfully that it never gets boring. It's the repetition that makes it great. After you listen through once, it's hard to resist hitting play again. The French masters — Braxe, Thomas Bangalter, Fred Falke, Lifelike — are so great at doing this.I started DJing all over the place a couple of years later, and in those days when you could get away with mixing up all sorts of genres and sounds, so this often served as the perfect euphoric, but less "in your face", end-of-night tune."In Love With You" appears on The Upper Cuts album which takes pride of place in my collection. It's not a DJ record for me now.
