Here Is a VICE Sports Staffer Winning a Dance Contest at a Penn State Basketball Game

Because our readers deserve to know when VICE Sports staffers have danced to LMFAO songs in front of 10,000 screaming people.

Without transparency and editorial accountability, there can be no good journalism. At VICE Sports, we understand this. We strive to live up to this standard every day.

And that is why, after confirming its authenticity and getting her permission--and then getting her permission again to make sure that she, like, really understood that this would be on the internet where everyone and her parents would know about it--we are posting this video of VICE Sports social producer and Chief Foreign Animal Video Correspondent Karisa Maxwell seriously getting it during a dance-off at Penn State basketball's hoops madness in 2011.

What we know about this video is that it has, to this point, been viewed some 230 times, and that Karisa herself does not know who has watched it, or why they would. We know that Karisa's competitors in this dance contest--into which, she maintains, she was tricked into participating by a friend--were an unidentified member of Penn State's 2010 national champion women's volleyball team and a Penn State legend named Delvonne, who went by the nickname "Deli Fresh."

"[Deli Fresh] was a household name amongst avid party animals because he was the coolest cashier at McDonald's, which is essentially the hottest nightclub in Happy Valley past 2 a.m.," Karisa says. "He was always putting on a show for the late night crowd at Club Micky D's, so I knew he had moves and a passionate fan base." The volleyball player, as a national champion and extremely tall person, had her own goodwill. Karisa, the designated civilian in the contest, had "nothing to lose but Twitter followers," and resolved to approach the contest as such.

"Considering the 10,000 people in attendance were going to be watching my every move regardless," she said, "I figured I might as well go all out try to win over the hearts of thousands who came out to see Fabolous perform, and the couple dozen who actually care about Penn State basketball."

The results are there for you to see. Karisa won this dance contest, with relative ease and enough flailing that it seems important to remark upon it. She credits a retrospectively embarrassing familiarity with LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and a max-effort approach in about equal measure, although Karisa never claimed her prize of "an awkward dinner with the Penn State basketball team." We will update this post when we determine whether this prize is still available.

We will share any future videos of VICE Sports staffers dancing or doing other ridiculous things as they become available. You deserve nothing less.
