Artist to Open Show by Shooting Works with an Air Gun

At tonight's opening of her Buck $hot to the $oulshow at Zener Schon Contemporary Art gallery, artist Laura Kimpton will shoot several of her mixed-media pieces and paintings with an air gun, in an act of "literally and conceptually deconstructing her creations." Needless to say, the exhibition is expected to go off with a bang.The included works from the California artist—a three-time recipient of Burning Man’s Honorarium Grant whose work has been featured in galleries across the U.S.—are correspondingly flamboyant. The show contains both newly crafted pieces, such as a structural spin-off of an early American flag made entirely from casings, or her self-portrait-meets-collage, EGO is Not Sacred, alongside older works including her satirical Who’s the Judge painting. All, however, are engrained with a heterogenous helping of humor and commentary.
