[12th Day of GIFmas] Home Alone with Pizza

Anne Horel creates odes to Christmas classics... and pizza.

The holidays are drawing to a close and 2016 is nipping at our heels. We’ve enjoyed sharing the work of some of the most festive GIF artists on the net, and shining a red and green spotlight on the creative process behind these shareable bites of holiday cheer. And so without further ado, here is the 12th Day of GIFmas.

All hail Anne Horel, the queen of emoji GIFs. From old school 20th century paintings to famous celebrities and pop culture icons, no one is safe from her absurdist style. Her GIFs are often full of movement, especially rotation. You're left feeling a little dizzy and disoriented. You're not quite sure what you just saw, but you know you liked it.

For the holidays, Horel created a trinity of festive GIFs jam-packed with emojis (and pizza, of course). We caught up with her to find out where she got the idea for her Home Alone pizza GIF.

The Creators Project: Where did the idea for this GIF come from?

Anne Horel: I am currently working on an advertising campaign for a cosmetic brand. I'm using phones in the frame to create a "mise en abime" effect. So lately I've been creating GIFs and vines likewise to experiment things in parallel of the job.

Run me through the process of creating this GIF. What tools/techniques did you use?

I woke up one morning with "White Christmas" stuck in my head. I thought of Kevin McCallister singing in the bathroom in Home Alone. I love this movie. Especially during Christmas period. I found the video on YouTube and downloaded it with Offliberty. Then uploaded it in Final Cut and added pizza and emoji spinning in rhythm with the music to make a vine with it. Then uploaded it in Photoshop to export it in GIF. Voila.

What kind of stuff do you have planned for the New Year?

I start the year working on 2 big projects. Afterwards, I'll go visit my friends in Los Angeles. That's all I have planned so far.

How are you celebrating the holidays?

I'm visiting my parents on the French west coast for a few days, with my sister. Then I'm gonna celebrate 2016 with my friends in Paris.
