The Winds of Winter is coming… or maybe not. The sixth book of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series—the basis for HBO's hit Game of Thrones—has been in the works for six years. Last season, the show's plot line outstripped Martin's books, and Winter still doesn't have a publication date. Meanwhile, SyFy announced Thursday it's working with Martin on developing an adaptation of his 1980 science-fiction novella Nightflyers. Here's how the network described the new show:

Nightflyers is still in the early stages of development, but SyFy has already brought on producers Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), David Bartis (The O.C.), and Gene Klein (Suits). Martin's novella was previously adapted as a film (which he co-wrote) in the 1980s. The Nightflyers adaptation is part of a "reboot" of the SyFy network that also includes adaptations of classic science-fiction works like Brave New World and Stranger in a Strange Land.It's unclear how what role Martin will play in the development, but the author is already involved in several other TV projects, including two possible Game of Thrones spin-offs.
