Logan Paul, a former Vine star and vlogger notorious for posting a YouTube video which he showed the body of a man who killed himself, just visited the offices of Dr. Sandra Lee, better known as Dr. Pimple Popper, a dermatologist who pops pimples and removes cysts from people’s bodies and posts the videos on Instagram and YouTube for our entertainment. She also has a TLC show.Today, Dr. Popper posted a seven-minute YouTube video of the blessed appointment titled “Crab, Corn, and Logan Paul!” Paul also published an eight-minute vlog of the appointment titled titled “GIRLFRIEND POPS MY BACK CYST! **graphic**” last Friday.Was this the content that I thought I would view on my computer today? No. Am I grateful for every event in human history that culminated in this event? Yes. God yes.The first thing to note about these videos is that Paul’s cyst is extremely small—perhaps even too small to warrant a procedural removal, in my largely uninformed opinion. (I am not a dermatologist. If you have a bump, please see a doctor and ignore these words.) But Paul claims that his girlfriend, The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennett, noticed the cyst, enjoys watching Dr. Pimple Popper’s videos, and encouraged Paul to get it removed. What I’m saying is they’re squeezing out all the content they can get from this tiny cyst.“Am I gonna be one of those people?” Paul said in his vlog, referring to the subjects of Dr. Pimple Popper’s popping videos. “Stuff’s gonna come out of my back?”Throughout the removal, Paul nervously asks the people in the operating room to describe what’s happening to the cyst on his back. The viewers can see that there are minor incisions happening (and that a pair of scissors is being used in a way that made my editor very uncomfortable), but it was interesting to see Paul in a genuinely vulnerable position: having no idea what’s happening on camera.Paul also thought it would be funny to narrate the surgery like a porn video. “Yeah,” Paul moaned, “Pop me, baby!” Okay.It’s worth nothing that Bennett had offered to help out in the cyst removal, and she did squeeze the cyst out of Paul’s back at the end of the surgery. (About half a teaspoon of white pus was excreted from Paul’s back, which as far as Dr. Pimple Popper videos are concerned is a very modest amount.) But at this point, Dr. Pimple Popper was still the only person working with him. Bennett was standing several feet away.Both Logan Paul and his brother, fellow Youtube vlogger Jake Paul, have been criticized for posting sexual content and promoting merch on their channels, despite the fact that their content explicitly targets children.The Paul brothers have been among the most hated figures on YouTube for years, and with good reason. They’re basically living caricatures of the most ugly personality traits that YouTube stars exploit to thrive: being obnoxious, having a superiority complex, being insensitive, and capitalizing off the empathy of young fans to sell merch and profit. They both remain extremely popular.While YouTube removed Logan Paul from its premium ad program after he posted a video of a dead body, Paul has continued to post daily blogs, profit off the platform, and score top-notch collaborations, such as this one with Dr. Pimple Popper.
