Don’t Worry, Even Rafael Nadal Struggles with Supermarket Self-Checkouts

Rafael Nadal is a superhuman sportsman. The Spanish tennis pro is ranked number two in the world, has won 14 Grand Slams, and is the recipient of two Olympic gold medals. But earlier this week, in a branch of Tesco Express in the Wimbledon village, he proved that he's just like you and me.

Nadal, who's in town this month for the Wimbledon tennis tournament, wasn't cursed with a squeaky trolley or forced to do laps of the aisles before finding his favourite flavour of Ribena. According to social media, his problem was more of a technical foul—he couldn't understand how to use the self-service checkout.

Don't worry Rafa, we've all had unexpected items in our bagging areas.

On Tuesday evening, Twitter user Nick Roberts posted a photo of himself helping the tennis star scan a six-pack of Diet Coke at the self-checkout with the caption, "Just done Rafa Nadal's shopping for him on the self service tills on the tesco express in Wimbledon village. Surreal."

The post has since gone viral, with people offering their sympathy and stories of similar self-checkout-related woes.

Roberts added in a later tweet: "It was very exciting. He bought a 6 pack of Diet Coke. Didn't need a bag. Environmentally conscious and awesome at tennis."

With just over a week left of Wimbledon, let's hope for Nadal's sake that his fumble in the supermarket doesn't repeat itself on Centre Court.
